Conceptual artist Johnny Walker hopes Austinites will spend New Year's Eve helping him create a constellation of lights by Town Lake.
People who attend First Night Austin 2007 can help the festival's featured artist place 3,000 water-filled luminaries on Auditorium Shores to create a meditative celebration of the beauty of water from 7 p.m. to midnight. And beginning this afternoon at 2 p.m., children and their families are invited to an origami workshop at Austin City Hall, where Walker will help everyone craft origami boxes that will hold the candles used in the transparent luminaries.
Called "Water Works," it's just one of more than 60 exhibits that Austin artists will present as part of First Night, the second alcohol-free New Year Eve's celebration of the arts. |
